Payal is a junior in Silliman College. She is studying psychology and neuroscience, though she’s also interested in writing and journalism, and in making science exciting and accessible for the public. She’s involved in research at the Clinical and Affective Neuroscience Lab. She dances on Yale’s bhangra team, and enjoys reading, swimming, and watching the Seahawks in her free time. In past years, she has been Features Editor and Staff Writer for the magazine.
Adam is currently a junior in Morse College, majoring in Biomedical Engineering. He has previously served as the Distribution Manager and as a Staff Writer for the magazine. Adam is also the captain of the Yale Club Soccer team, a certified EMT and a nationally ranked Spike Ball player. In his free time, Adam enjoys playing euchre with his friends, running outside and watching the Miami Heat.
Nicole is a junior in Saybrook College and a candidate for the B.S./M.S. dual degree program in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology. A member of the Forscher Lab, she is researching the control of cytoskeletal dynamics in neuronal motility. In her free time, Nicole enjoys painting, exploring art galleries, and playing casual games of squash.
Kevin is a sophomore in Ezra Stiles College and prospective Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology major. He has been writing for Yale Scientific since the beginning of his freshman year and has previously served as Copy Editor for the magazine. He currently works in the immunology lab of Akiko Iwasaki studying gut microbiota-pathogen interactions and tissue-resident memory cells. In his spare time, he enjoys playing piano duets, eating spicy food, and playing the bells of Harkness Tower.
Theresa is an English major in Trumbull College ’16, from Chicago, IL. In addition to working with Yale Scientific, she is involved in the Berkeley College Orchestra and the St. Thomas More Catholic Center and Chapel at Yale. She has previously written for the Yale Daily News and the Yale Daily News Magazine.

Christina is a junior in Berkeley College pursuing a BS in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry. She loves to communicate her enthusiasm for science to others; in addition to joining YSM, this has led her to become a peer tutor for Organic Chemistry and a School Coordinator for Yale Demos. She is also involved with Volunteers Around the World, the Yale Medical Professions Outreach, and the Yale Symphony Orchestra.
Grace is a junior Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology major in Timothy Dwight College. She studies the role of TAM receptors in macrophages in Professor Carla Rothlin’s lab, and is also involved with Undergraduate Women in Science at Yale. In her free time, Grace enjoys bridge and bookbinding.
Jacob Marks is a sophomore in Pierson College double majoring in Intensive Physics and Math & Philosophy. In addition to his involvement with the YSM, he teaches at Splash, tutors Math 120, and serves as the President of Ventures in Science. During his free time, Jacob enjoys rock climbing, playing guitar, and reading Kurt Vonnegut novels.
Zach is a sophomore in Ezra Stiles College broadly interested in biomedical science. He works on small molecule discovery at Yale West Campus and on pediatric-clinical research at Yale New Haven Hospital. Outside the lab and library he can be found baking (cheesecake), listening to folk music, and reading dystopian fiction.
Genevieve is a freshman in Pierson College and plans to major in Electrical Engineering with a focus on energy studies. She is passionate about the development of renewable energy and writes for YSM because she believes that scientific communication with a wide audience not only informs but also promotes cross-disciplinary, integrated collaboration. In addition to writing for Yale Scientific and working with local students interested in science through Synapse, she installs solar panels across campus with Project Bright, is a member of Yale’s Society of Women Engineers, and spends time experimenting at the Center for Engineering Innovation and Design.

Julia Rothchild is a junior in Timothy Dwight College from Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was previously the YSM’s Articles Editor. Besides writing about science, she enjoys making music and reading novels.
Allison is a freshman in Berkeley College and a prospective Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology major. In addition to YSM, she is also a member of Students for Autism Awareness at Yale and Volunteers Around the World. In her free time, she enjoys playing the piano, attempting to swing dance, and listening to bad puns.
Jenna is a freshman in Ezra Stiles College and a prospective Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry major. She previously served Yale Scientific as Associate Layout Editor. In addition to her work with YSM, Jenna is invested in her surgical research, as well as EMT training, and is a committee chair for Yale Relay for Life. When she is not in the lab, Jenna loves horseback riding, cooking, traveling and getting comps to broadway shows.
Aviva is a freshman in Pierson College and a prospective Cognitive Science major. Outside of YSM, Aviva can be found stage managing rehearsals for multiple shows, taking minutes at the Yale Drama Coalition board meetings, hanging out at the Slifka Center or occasionally singing in the L-Dub courtyard. She loves swimming, theater, eating baked goods, and stealing apples from the dining hall.
Sofia Braunstein is a freshman in Pierson College and is a prospective Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology and Political Science double major. In addition to writing and doing layout for YSM, she is involved with the Roosevelt Institute, the YDN Weekend section, the HAVEN free clinic, the Dems, YIRA, and YUSBS. She enjoys spending long periods of time in the dining hall, reading about and discussing world issues, and staying true to her Californian origins by practicing yoga and complaining about the cold.

Surya is currently a freshman in Silliman College, pursuing a double major in Physics and Economics. In addition to working on the layout team, Surya enjoys photography and graphic design as hobbies, and often contributes photos and artwork to the magazine. He also works as a Media Tech for the Student Tech Collaborative, and as the head events director for the annual Yale Undergraduate Science Olympiad tournament. In his free time, he enjoys playing guitar and video games with his roommates.
Christina is a sophomore in Saybrook College majoring in Architecture. Having a strong passion in both art design and biology, she enjoys combining science with anything artistic. Besides her commitment in art and science, Christina is also interested in US-China relations, literature, travelling, cooking and eating.
Katherine, more commonly refurred to as Kat, is a freshman of Morse College. She enjoys taking pictures because it gives her a sense of purrpose, as does learning mew things whenever pawsible. Although they have brought with them catastrophic consequences, puns are litterally her life. (Nope, not kitten you right meow).
Peter is a freshman in Timothy Dwight College and a prospective Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology major. Apart from his YSM work and STEM courses, he is also involved in the Yale Student Environmental Coalition. He loves origami, exploring Yale with friends, and scribbling on the whiteboard in his room.
Jason is a junior in Saybrook College majoring in French and Evolutionary Biology. He previously served as an online articles editor and staff writer for the magazine. Jason is also captain of the Yale Equestrian Team, a teacher for Splash/Sprout, and works in a clinical lab at the School of Medicine. Last year, he spent a year abroad earning his chef and pastry chef certifications from the Cordon Bleu in Paris. Jason is a self-professed wine aficionado and in his free time enjoys the occasional glass of malbec.
Lionel is a freshman in Calhoun College and a prospective Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology or Computer Science major. He is passionate about helping people see how elegant and intuitive science can be, and also writes for the Sci-Tech desk of the Yale Daily News. Lionel enjoys participating in the L.E.A.D program and playing the violin in the Berkeley College Orchestra.
Sonia is a freshman in Jonathan Edwards College and a prospective Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry major. Outside of YSM, she is also part of the Guild of Carillonneurs and the Dwight Hall Freshmen-in-Service Program. In her free time she enjoys exploring new recipes, reading, writing, and playing piano.
Amanda is a sophomore Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (and potentially English) major in Berkeley College. Besides writing, volunteering, and managing subscriptions for the Scientific Magazine, Amanda is a beat reporter covering academic support services for the Yale Daily News. She is also an associate of Smart Woman Securities and participates in Women in Science at Yale.
Kevin is a sophomore in Berkeley College studying EP&E and MCDB, and is from Athens, Ohio. Besides serving as Synapse Director, Kevin also works closely as the Outreach Liaison for Pathways to Science, and serves as the Programs Co-Coordinator for the Asian American Cultural Center (AACC). In his free time, Kevin enjoys archery, creative writing, and chatting with friends about anything.

Milana is a prospective Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology major in Jonathan Edwards College. In addition to writing for the YSM and spreading the mission of Synapse, she enjoys serving on the board of the Yale Medical Professions Outreach organization, organizing Relay for Life, and shadowing physicians at Yale-New Haven Hospital. In her spare time, Milana can be found spending time in the Yale University Art Gallery, practicing piano, or hiking.
